Precision and quality for tool and mold making

The MIKRON MILL HSM 500 is a high-speed machining center designed without compromise for tool and mold makers who demand the highest accuracy, extreme dynamics, and best surface quality. Built around a polymer concrete base, absolute optical linear scales, and a fully liquid-cooled structure, it delivers consistent precision from the very first part to the last.

3-AXIS MILLING

Highlights

Polymer concrete base

The pyramid-shaped portal structure built on a polymer concrete base delivers up to six times better vibration damping than grey cast iron, providing exceptional rigidity, thermal stability, and lasting accuracy under the most demanding cutting conditions.

Absolute optical scales

Absolute optical linear scales on all three axes, operating with a measuring step of 20 nanometers, ensure incomparable positioning precision, compensating for thermal drifts and mechanical wear throughout long production cycles.

Full thermal control

All heat sources, drives, high-speed spindle, and electrical cabinet, are liquid-cooled as standard, eliminating thermal displacement at the tool center point and guaranteeing accuracy from the very start of machining.

Ergonomic design

A single sliding door with a large trapezoidal window, effortless crane loading, and unparalleled accessibility regardless of machine configuration, designed to make setup, operation, and part loading as fast and safe as possible.

Smart machine

The HSM 500 is equipped with a suite of intelligent modules that bring precision, protection, and productivity to every cycle. The Operator Support System (OSS) optimizes dynamic behavior to reduce machining times and improve surface quality. Intelligent Thermal Control (ITC) actively compensates for thermal displacement, allowing operators to start precision work immediately, without waiting for thermal steady-state.

Accuracy by design

Every MIKRON MILL HSM 500 is assembled in an air-conditioned workshop and validated with highly accurate laser measuring systems according to ISO 230. A compact touch probe enables in-process calibration and workpiece measurement directly on the machine, ensuring that every part meets the required tolerances before leaving the working area.

Graphite version

The HSM 500 is also available in a dedicated Graphite version — specifically engineered for the high-speed milling of graphite electrodes for EDM applications. The machine combines the HSM 500's precision and thermal stability with a fully enclosed and protected structure, an Amano suction unit with two separate dust bins for powerful graphite dust extraction, and a high-speed STEP TEC spindle at 42,000 min⁻¹. All axes are fully covered and protected, and automatic central lubrication ensures lasting accuracy and reliability throughout continuous graphite production.

High-quality Spindle

The HSM 500 is equipped with high-speed STEP TEC spindles available in a range from 30,000 to 42,000 min⁻¹ with HSK-E40 interface, delivering the speed, torque, and surface quality required for the most demanding mold and die applications. Vector-controlled motor drive ensures short run-up and brake times with high torque at low speed, while ceramic hybrid ball bearings with oil-air lubrication and a liquid-cooled stator guarantee precise, vibration-free operation across every cycle.
